Time for a change
Enough is always enough. After two years of lecturing and researching full time and studying part-time for my Legal Practice Course I decided I deserved a year out. I wrote to a tour operator and offered them my services on a free lance basis for a year. I was accepted and set off to enjoy a year of globe trotting at their expense.
My perception of the job was very different from the reality. It was really hard work! Dealing with the public is never easy but dealing with the public on holiday was a real challenge. Negotiation skills acquired during my course were soon out to good use dealing with a multitude of problems such as unfulfilled requests for sea view rooms and insufficient rooms for my group.
As my year out was nearing its end I began to dread incarceration in on office again. But then it dawned on me. It was not compulsory. The decision was made and the change effected. That was 12 years and 58 countries ago!
